Determination of Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) levels in surface waters by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)-Ultraviolet/Visible (UV/VIS) detector

Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) is a chemical that harmful to human health with its high solubility in water, which used as metal chelating agent industries such medicine, food, personal care product, agriculture. Thus, it necessary should be monitored surface waters taken from dams supplying drinking and utility water. This work presents the applicability of HPLC-UV/VIS system for quantification EDTA based on limit values national international legislation Turkish Regulation Management Surface Water Quality. The water was checked validation study. method consisted selectivity, calibration curve linearity, detection (LOD) (LOQ), accuracy (recovery), precision. In selectivity study, no peaks belonging interfering compounds would cause false-positive results were found chromatograms at retention time (5.773 min.). linearity obtained ranging 10 µg/L 200 concentrations correlation coefficient 0.9985 equation y=4659.4x-50223. LOD LOQ 2.85 9.51 RSD 5.36. accuracy, mean recovery has been determined 87.51 percent an 6.11. repeatability (RSD, %) varied 5.44 % 7.02 35.19 ± 1.91 μg/L 17.11 1.20 μg/L, whereas reproducibility 3.45 concentration 34.13 1.18 μg/L. this presence investigated approximately 300 samples positive range 11.17 52.14 eleven real samples.
